The Phils bullpen protected a lead! Someone better check in with the Devil and make sure he has his ice skates on because hell might have frozen over.
As bad as the bullpen has been so far this year, the law of averages was definitely on the Phillies side tonight up in Shea. There was no way these guys could be that bad this long. Not only did Six Fingers Alfonseca pitch a one-two-three scoreless 8th inning on only 9 pitches, but Tom Gordon got the save after only allowing one hit! Yes, I am as surprised as the rest of you, but thankful nonetheless. I just hope the 'pen doesn't blow three or four more games before we see a similar adequate performance.
Plus, it was nice to see an opponent finally return the favor by melting down and giving the Phils a victory. While the Phils only pounded out a paltry 5 hits, they were able to score 5 runs thanks to Mets starter Oliver Perez who walked four and hit a man in the third inning to stake the Phillies to a 3-0 lead.

Let's not forget to mention that Adam Eaton surprisingly threw 7 strong innings to get the win. I suppose, that like most other pitchers, he pitches better away from the band box known as Citizen's Bank Park.
Overall, it remains to be seen if these Phils are back on track or if this is just a blip on the radar screen of a disappointing season.

Finally it was good to see some quality pitching. It would have been nice to see some more hits by the Phils, but there was some clutch hitting (Rowand) when we needed it.
*On another note, for all of you who pick up the Phils on your local stations, be glad you didn't have to suffer through 2 full innings of listening to Jerry Koosman discuss technique with those idiots Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling. Friggin Painful. It's nice being close to RU but being in Mets/Yankees territory is harsh sometimes (except having Mike and the Mad Dog---------sometimes!)

I got to listen to Koosman...I found myself yelling at the TV in agony.
That last one was mine

P.S. I really really hate Keith Hernandez.
Gordon had a fastball last nite and Eaton was great.
I hope you didn't just jinx them Philly Sports Phan by being all optimistic over one game.
Last night your yelling over the win...was a little crazy. Let's just wait and see if they keep winning!
Pitching's one thing. Another I've noticed in the few games I've seen is the defensive buffoonery in the infield. They're throwing balls away left and right.
If the pitchers are finally throwing on target, maybe the infield should take a lesson.
