EAGLES' WRAP UP

Obviously, this is not the way the Birds expected to start the season. Everyone seems to be in agreement that last night's game was absolutely pathetic and probably more indicative of this team's overall ability than what we all believed coming into the season. However, while the play of the defense and the wide receivers raise some warning bells, let's cut to the chase. This game was all about the alarmingly bad performance of D Mac.

Clearly, Donovan does not look physically ready to play high caliber NFL football. He is undoubtedly more than just one step slower. Additionally, his mechanics were atrocious. He overthrew and under threw numerous receivers. While his receivers didn't do him many favors, when they were open, D Mac seemed hesitant to pull the trigger. Overall, Donovan better get his act together or it is going to be a real long season.

Last night's game seemed to be another step towards the inevitable dissolution of the McNabb/Eagles marriage. Just like Barkley, Randall, Lindros, Iverson, Schilling, and Rolen before him, D Mac is another Philly Sports Star that is about to flame out.

The last word on the 'Skins game goes to Mister Nascar who sends us another addition to the "One" saga:

Not sure if you guys saw it on HBO last night, but there was a story on Real Sports with Donovan, citing how critical the fans are here in Philly (and all over the NFL) because he is African-American. His argument was that all African-American QB's have an issue with the media coming down on them harder than their Caucasian counterparts.

It's not because he hasn't won anything since arriving here 9 years ago that the fans are tough on him. It's because he's black.

Way to go, Donovan. You have just thinned out your fan base even more by making these comments. I'm sorry, but the race card doesn't play in this game. I'm so sick of guys pulling the race card to cover up for shortcomings in other areas.

I don't know about you guys, but I've never been a fan of this guy, and this just makes it even worse for me.

Never been a fan of a guy who in 9 years went to 4 Championship Games and 1 SB. Now that makes a lot of sense.

Other than Tom Brady or Peyton Manning (after last year), name one other current QB that has come close to accomplishing what this guy has in the last 7 years?

While DMac may have had a bad night and its clear that he is not "match fit" for his standards, the real blame goes to Andy Reid. There's no excuse for abandoning the running game when your QB is at 85% and misfiring. Way to go Big Red. Apprently he's already forgotten how well they played at the end of last season with a more balanced approach.

BTW-you need to give DMac some serious respect for coming back in such a short time frame and giving it his best effort. Aside from that he's no Pat Burrell. He's a proven winner that is being asked to do too much, too early. Balance Mr. Reid. Balance!!

Tom - what has Donovan done in the past two games that makes you believe that it was a good thing for him to come back so quickly? An ACL injury is a 14-18 month injury, according to doctors and other atheletes who have weighed in on the situation. Donovan came back to the game not even 12 months after the injury. Clearly, he is not 100% since he has not been able to get away from trouble with his legs in either the GB or Washington game, and his throwing has been even less accurate than it was before the injury.

To the first Anonymous poster, Donovan has been to all of those NFC championship games, and to the SB, but what do we have to show for it in this city? How many parades for the Eagles have you been to in the past 9 years? I don't think I have been to any.

Also, I'm not a fan of Donovan, not just for his performance on the field, but his issues off the field in the past 4 or 5 years have turned me off to him even more.

Exactly what issues has he had the past 4-5 years? A broken ankle, a sports hernia, a WR that had a problem w/ every QB he's ever played for?

We lost the SB to the best team of the last 10 years, and McNabb did not play well. Hopefully we'll get back for another shot.
