Just When You Thought It Couldn't Get Any Worse

As I sit here this Monday evening writing this blog, I realized that things can't get much worse for Philly Sports Phans:

(1) The Flyers are in the middle of the equivalent of the Bataan Death March as they attempt to break their seven game losing streak with several of their regulars out of the lineup for at least a week or so. Their injury situation is so bad that they had to petition the league to bring up 2006 First Round pick Claude Giroux. The way the weekend went, does anyone expect the Orange & Black to break their losing streak against Ottawa? I don't.

(2) To compound the Flyers' problems, Peter Forsberg announced that he will not play in the NHL this year due to continued problems with his feet. As I've said before, I really didn't want Forsberg and the distractions that he brings back on the team, so maybe the fact that this is now a dead issue will loosen things up for our Fly Guys.

(3) Tonight, it was reported by the NFL Network and ESPN that the Birds have given Pro Bowl Corner Back, Lito Sheppard, permission to seek a trade. For weeks, there have been rumors (started by Comcast's Derek Gunn) that there was an Eagle that wanted out of town. Tonight, it became clear that he was referencing Lito. However, there are now reports that Lito is not being shopped, but still is pretty upset with his contract. We'll see what happens, but I'd love to see the Birds' keep Lito and sign Asante Samuel. That would help out the secondary enormously for '08.

(4) Last, but not least. My long weekend is coming to an end. Lord, I hate when these come to an end.

I do have one interesting note on the Eagles though. A guy on G Cobb's website is reporting that the Birds will go very hard after Larry Fitzgerald this offseason. I don't know about you guys, but that sounds pretty fine to me. One has to believe that a WR with the ball skills of Fitz would cure the Birds' red zone issues pretty quickly. I just hope this rumor isn't a bunch of horseshit which I'm suspecting it is.

who would take Lito is the real question. He's missed 14 games over the last 3 years and is barely 5'10. This is all BS. But hey, if someone offerned something, i would listen. Now if he has issue w/ his contract, lets remind him... He was 1st round pick who had his contract torn up and received a big bonus in only his 2nd year in the league. (thats 2 signing bonuses, in 4 years). He's less than durable and has struggled at times. He should be more concerned w/ his health and starting position versus a new contract.
