Absolute Travesty

Until this evening, I don't think I could ever say I watched a game that I truly 100% believed was fixed. (One caveat, I didn't have the pleasure of watching any of those NBA games reffed by Tim Donaghy). What the referees did to the Flyers was absolutely obscene. I am completely convinced that the league ensured that the Flyers lost this evening. It was gruesome to watch.
Never in my life have I seen an after the whistle scrum end up with two penalties called on one team and none on the others. It's not like the Pens weren't willing combatants during the scrum. There was also a blatant high stick to the face of Scott Hartnell right in front of the ref that went uncalled. So very frustrating.

Plus, the way the refs call plays involving Sidney Crosby are flat out embarrassing for this league. Sure, it is not uncommon for leagues to protect superstars through officiating, but what the league is doing to coddle and protect Crosby is ridiculous. It's almost as though Gary Bettman sent out a league wide memo that Crosby cannot be touched, but can also do whatever he wants all over the ice.

What a sad, sad evening.

someone play the TAPS song. They're done. Nice improvement from last season and they're headed in the right direction. Still need to address the goaltender in my opinion.

Hockey reffing has always been guesswork. That's why flopping has and always will be a successful ploy. That said, the "Groundhog Day" game between the Eagles and Cowboys was the most fixed game I've ever seen. Many people remember the Eagles stopped the Boys twice on 4th and 1. The reason for the do-over: somehow after the fact, the refs determined they "forgot" to blow the whistle. Sketchy but OK. Then we had to kick the game-winning field goal. It's up ... it's good! Wait. Forgot to blow the doggone whistle again. Sorry, guys. Mind lining that baby up one more time? It happened twice in that game, both times on huge, hard-to-duplicate plays after the outcome of the play was decided. And I have never seen that "didn't blow the whistle" call before or since.

We're Going. Sixers too.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Martin Biron stopped all 22 shots for his fourth shutout and the Philadelphia Flyers clinched a playoff spot in 3-0 win over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

R.J. Umberger scored his 13th goal of the season only 5:44 into the game, and Scottie Upshall and Joffrey Lupul scored 37 seconds apart in the third.

Biron, who has never played a postseason game, recorded his 22nd career shutout.

There could be a Philly playoff double on Friday night. The 76ers needed to win at Atlanta to reach the postseason for the first time since 2005.

Martin Brodeur made 33 saves and was having one

Dude, nothing? Two big wins this weekend for the Flyers, number 6 in the playoffs, and we get nothing from you??

Slacker!
