Old Time Hockey

In case you missed it, hockey training camps have opened up across North America for the upcoming NHL season. I, for one, am very happy to see my second favorite sport coming up on the horizon. However, nothing gets me more excited than when I see the following in the first period penalties section of the box score from last night's Flyers/Devils preseason game:

Penalties: C Janssen, Njd (major fighting), 5:22; J Boulerice, Phi (major fighting), 5:22; J Smith, Phi (major fighting), 6:50; D Clarkson, Njd (major fighting), 6:50; A Asham, Njd (major fighting), 11:20; R Cote, Phi (major fighting), 11:20; B Eager, Phi (major fighting), 11:21; M Rupp, Njd (major fighting), 11:21; J Boulerice, Phi (major fighting), 11:22; C Janssen, Njd (major fighting), 11:22.
Not only did this first period feature five fights, but three of them occurred on successive face offs! Gotta love old time hockey. Well, everyone loves it except NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman who is doing his all to keep us from enjoying a good ol' fashion scrap.

By the way, it also nice to see the Orange & Black get a win in their preseason opener. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come.
