Wow, what another wild, phenomenal evening in the National League East. The gutty, gritty Phils came back from a 6-2 deficit on the strength of a 3 run pinch hit 7th inning home run by Jayson Werth along with more heroics from J Roll, which is pretty much becoming a nightly occurrence. Around the same time the Phils were putting the finishing touches on their come back victory, the Mets were in the process of blowing a three run 9th inning lead on the way to losing in extra innings. (Special thanks go out to Dan Uggla and the rest of the Marlins for giving the Phils a hand.) The Mets' division lead is once again back down to 1.5 games and we remain 2.5 games out in the wild card as the Padres refuse to lose. A pennant chase is a wonderful thing, huh?
I don't mean to be a buzz kill as we soak in the events of this evening, but what are the chances that Adam Eaton doesn't totally piss the game away tomorrow? Lohse only went 2 innings tonight, so the Phils desperately need at least 6 innings from Eaton. If this guy has any self dignity, he'll finally give us one decent start in the middle of the pennant chase to justify his overinflated paycheck.
No matter what happens, the Phils are becoming appointment television. Their games rarely disappoint. I'm loving this ride.
By the way, sorry for not posting yesterday. We had crying baby issues. After 7 weeks of fatherhood, I've realized that if you need to interrogate a witness, there is no reason to use sodium pentathol as a truth serum. Just bring a crying baby into the room and tell your witness the kid's not leaving until he tells you what you want to hear. Yes, the cries of a baby can be that painful.
