The Daily News....Masters of the Obvious

You know that sports have hit an all time low when the Daily News decides to take up a ton of space with a symposium about our streak of futility....Oh well, check out this link for some interesting reads (if you didn't catch them previously).

Unfortunatley, as pertaining to the media, I think I do get it. It's called ratings or readership numbers. They are given the masses what they want. Generally, everyone here in Philly loves to gripe about anything and everything. Being honest,I complain about crap even when everything is generally ok. We are a provincial town in the Northeast, its our right and obligation to gripe about everything that is important and/or effects us. It is bred into us. Even if the Phillies or Sixers or Eagles or even all 3 had won titles over the last 23 years or every year, some would still complain that the darn Flyers haven't won since the 70's. That's who we are and what we do. Thus, as losing continues a mindset of inadequacy continues to develop, ergo the reason why everyone desires, craves and demands that SOMEONE, ANYONE win a title in a major sport. The media is just playing to this trait. Plus, what else are they going to write/talk about. Hey discussing how much of a loserville we live in is still better than having to listen/read about NASCAR!

Nick, I guess my retort would be that No, I will never tire of complaining as sad as that is . . . because after complaining, what is left. My guess, apathy. I don't want to live that way. I'm way to competitive a person not to care regardless of circumstances (hell I'll watch re-runs of old Penn State games on Classic and still yell and scream like a moron) but I'm also to stupid to realize that my bitching and moaning changes little in the grand scheme of things. Thus, I too am like the masses to which the media play to. My point . . . Nascar still sucks.
